Effortless Wireless Setup: Connecting Your HP DeskJet 4120e to Wi-Fi
The HP DeskJet
4120e is a popular all-in-one printer and getting it connected to your home
Wi-Fi is essential for printing from your computer, phone, or tablet. The
easiest and most reliable way to do this is with the HP Smart app. This
guide will walk you through the process, step by step.
Step 1: Prepare Your Printer and Devices 🖨️
Before you begin, make sure your printer and the device
you're using for setup (computer, smartphone, or tablet) are ready.
- Power
On: Plug in your HP DeskJet 4120e and turn it on.
- Restore
Wi-Fi Setup Mode: This is crucial for a smooth connection. On the
printer's control panel, press and hold the Wireless button and the
Cancel button at the same time until the power light starts blinking. Release
the buttons and wait for the wireless light to begin blinking. This
indicates that the printer is in setup mode and ready to be discovered.
- Check
Your Network: Ensure the device you're using (computer or smartphone)
is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to use. You
should also temporarily disable any VPN connections as they can interfere
with the setup.
- Enable
Bluetooth: Turn Bluetooth on your device. The HP Smart app uses this
to detect your printer during the setup process.
Step 2: Install and Use the HP Smart App 📱
The HP Smart app is the most straightforward way to connect
your HP printer.
- Download
the App: Visit 123.hp.com
or search for "HP Smart APP" in your device's app store (Google
Play Store or Apple App Store).
- Open
the App: Launch the HP Smart app and accept the terms.
- Add
a New Printer: Tap the "Add Printer" or "+"
icon. The app will search for your printer, which should be in Wi-Fi setup
mode.
- Connect
to Wi-Fi: When the app finds your printer, it will guide you to
connect it to your Wi-Fi network. You'll need to confirm your network name
(SSID) and enter the password.
- Follow
the Prompts: The HP Smart app will take care of the rest, including
installing the necessary drivers and software. Follow any on-screen
instructions to complete the setup.
Alternative Method: Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) 🔐
If your router has a WPS button, you can also connect to the
printer without the app.
- Activate
WPS on Printer: On your HP DeskJet 4120e, press and hold the
Wireless button until the wireless light starts flashing.
- Activate
WPS on Router: Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button
on your router until its light starts blinking.
- Wait
for Connection: The printer and router will now attempt to connect. Once
the connection is successful, the wireless light on the printer will stop
flashing and remain solid blue.
Note: If the WPS method doesn't work, go back to
using the HP
Smart app, as it is a more reliable and guided process.
